A waiting period is a period when we cannot pay any claim. This is a period of 3 days from the date of insurance in the case of accident, 30 days in the case of sickness and 60 days for theft and loss. For orthopaedic operations other than fractures, the waiting period is 6 months. The waiting period is a tool to limit speculative underwriting.
Our insurance is unique in that it works on the same principle as your health insurance. This means that you will not pay for the cost of the vet treatment, but we will pay the vet directly. In order for us to pay the vet directly, they need to be in our veterinary network, as we have electronically linked our systems.
The exception to this is an acute medical situation that directly threatens the animal's life, in which case we allow a non-contracted vet to treat the animal, with reimbursement being made directly to you based on a receipt you email to pomoc@petexpert.cz.
The insurance premium must be paid so that we can reimburse you for the treatment without complications. It may happen that you forget, so we will remind you in time and several times so that everything can be put in order.
The animal health questionnaire must be truthfully completed when arranging insurance.
When your pet gets sick, injured, lost, or some other unpleasant event happens, we are here to help with the unpleasant financial side so you can focus on your pet. We will reimburse the vet for the cost of treating an illness or injury right away, but there are situations where this is not possible. For example, you are on holiday away from your home and your dog is stung by a bee and has a violent allergic reaction or runs off after a deer in the woods. Even in these situations we are here for you, but we need you to inform us of these events in a timely manner, no later than 30 days. The reason is quite simple, we want to send you the money as soon as possible. In order to do this, we need to conduct a liquidation investigation (we are required by law to do this). The more time that passes since the event occurred, the more complicated our job becomes and the longer it takes. It's also harder to remember, with the passage of time, what it was like in the forest at the time.
In pet insurance, we can only reimburse you for actual damages resulting from an insured event. This means that if your dog or cat falls ill and the treatment of the illness costs e.g. CZK, you can only be paid a maximum of CZK 10 thousand from the insurance. CZK. It does not matter how many other insurance companies you have taken out insurance with, only the actual damage will be paid. It is therefore useless to pay premiums to several insurance companies, choose only one.
Sayings
The deductible is the amount you contribute to the cost. The amount of the deductible starts at 10% (minimum CZK 1,000) per claim and your specific deductible is stated in the offer when you take out the insurance and also in the Application for Insurance. For example, if the treatment of a kitten costs CZK 4,900, you will only pay the minimum deductible stated on your contract (typically CZK 1,000). If a more expensive treatment is needed, for example for CZK 15,000, your deductible will be CZK 1,500 and we will pay CZK 13,500 (examples are with a 10% deductible).
The principle of insurance is to cover events that are unexpected and accidental. We cannot cover events that you might have expected to happen. For example, if you deliberately leave your dog locked in your car outside a shop on a hot summer's day and it dies, we will not pay the death benefit.
We need not add anything to that. We certainly do not accept breaking the law.
This provision is intended for potential speculators. For example, if someone states when taking out insurance that they have a one year old kitten and when they are treated by a vet it turns out that the cat is at least 12 years old.
Yes, even such cases can happen. We try to eliminate these situations, which are especially dangerous for your pet, by contracting a network of proven veterinarians. And if any unpleasant incident happens at the vet, be sure to let us know so we can check everything out. We won't ignore you.
We cannot pay a claim for treatment of a condition or illness that arose before the start of the insurance, even if its treatment started after the insurance. For example, your Labrador had an accident six months ago in which he injured his paw. Today you take him to the vet because he is still limping and in pain. The vet finds that he has ligament damage and needs to operate. If you took out insurance after the dog was injured, we cannot pay for the cost of the surgery because the ligament injury is due to a cause that happened before the insurance started.
We certainly don't want to support breeding farms, so we don't want to insure animals from these "breeders" and cover any costs for treatment. Who we do support, however, are the dog and cat lovers who help these poor animals and take them into their care. We only insist that a vet examine this animal before entering into insurance, and that is only to set up a transparent relationship on both our and your part.
We have no doubt that you take excellent care of your animal friend. Just don't forget regular preventive veterinary care, such as vaccinations, deworming, tartar removal, etc. If your pet were to contract a disease that it should be vaccinated against, we would not be able to reimburse you for the cost of this treatment.
In the case of acute illness or injury, time is always of the essence. For example, in the case of gastric torsion (stomach twisting, which mainly affects large and giant breeds), the time when the vet can perform surgery and save your dog is absolutely crucial. Or in the case of an allergic reaction after a bee sting, immediate treatment by a vet is also essential, as there is a risk of anaphylactic shock. By visiting early, you will prevent more serious consequences of illness or injury and, of course, reduce the potential costs of treating these consequences.
Believe us, it is neither our aim nor our pleasure to burden you administratively or bureaucratically. But in order to assess your claim and correctly determine the amount of the claim, we need a few documents, without which we simply cannot do without. For example, if your dog is lost and you put posters all over town, we'll be happy to help you with the cost, but we can't without proof of how much you paid for the posters.
